The Associated Press and Coaches Polls tend to be off each week but the polls released on Oct. 27 are a disaster.
Here are some of the lowlights.
- Indiana is having its best season in modern history. Voters in both polls left the 8-0 Hoosiers at No. 13. Indiana is behind seven 1-loss teams. The Hoosiers shouldn’t be in the top five, but IU should be slotted in the top 10.
- Missouri is No. 25 in the AP and No. 23 in the Coaches Poll. The Tigers have been overrated since the preseason, when they were ranked in the top 10. Missouri in its two losses has been outscored 75-10. Its best win is probably a double overtime win over Vanderbilt. Get Missouri out of here.
- Undefeated, 7-0 Pittsburgh is No. 18 in the AP and No. 17 in the Coaches Poll. The Panthers are behind two, 2-loss schools (take a guess at what conference those schools are in…).
It’s hard filling out a ballot each week, I know. Most of the voters are covering games every Saturday and can’t watch all the action. It’s hard to see every team every week when you cover a three-hour game, and have to do post-game interviews, write, etc.
I feel like the NCAA should open up the voting to super fans with six-plus TVs in their basement and who make it a point to watch from sun up to sun down.
Do we know anybody who fits that criteria?
