Nellie Morse was owned by Edward F. Whitney and trained by Thomas J. Healey. She was ridden by jockey Johnny Merimee in the Preakness Stakes. The race was held on May 9, 1924, at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. Nellie Morse was the only filly in the race, and she was given odds of 10-1 to win.

Despite being an underdog, Nellie Morse ran a fantastic race. She was in fifth place for most of the race, but she made a strong move in the final stretch and passed all of the other horses to win the race by a length. Her victory made her the second filly to win the Preakness Stakes, after Rhine Maiden in 1915.

After her victory in the Preakness Stakes, Nellie Morse continued to race for several more years. She won a number of other important races, including the Dixie Handicap and the Saratoga Handicap.
