today we’re going to be discussing the latest news surrounding Two Phils and their decision to skip the Preakness Stakes. As many of you know, Two Phils finished in a gallant second place in the Kentucky Derby, but trainer Larry Rivelli has announced that the horse will not be competing in the upcoming Preakness Stakes. According to Rivelli, the decision was made due to concerns about the quick turnaround time between the two races.
While some may be disappointed that Two Phils won’t be running in the Preakness Stakes, the horse’s health and well-being are of the utmost importance. Rivelli has already identified several other options for Two Phils’ next race, including the Belmont Stakes on June 10th, the Grade 3 Matt Winn at Churchill on June 11th, and other options later down the road, like the Jim Dandy and/or Travers.
Despite not having Two Phils in the race, the Preakness Stakes is still shaping up to be an exciting event. The 2023 Preakness Stakes will take place on Saturday, May 20th at Pimlico Race Course with an approximate post time of 6:50 p.m. ET.
The early favorite for the Preakness Stakes is Mage, who won the Kentucky Derby in impressive fashion. Mage is currently listed at 3-1 odds to win the race. However, Mage will still have some tough competition, including First Mission who is also listed at 5-1 odds.
It will certainly be interesting to see how the race plays out without Two Phils in the mix. But one thing is for certain, the Preakness Stakes is always an exciting event, and I can’t wait to see who comes out on top.
While Two Phils will not be competing in the Preakness Stakes, there are still plenty of other talented horses in the race. Mage is the early favorite, but First Mission and other contenders could certainly give Mage a run for his money. Regardless of who wins, the Preakness Stakes is always an exciting event, and I’m looking forward to seeing how everything unfolds.
